Default You relationship with food...

I've met many overweight people who reach for food based on their emotions. I'm happy I eat to celebrate. When I'm with family, it's all about the kitchen table. When I'm upset I reach for "comfort" foods. I know I'm not alone in this.

Some people just simply haven't been paying attention to how much they eat. It tastes good, they're hungry, they eat but don't exercise. They find a health problem and that's when they pay attention.

How about you?

For me, after my divorce, I gained 100 pounds. I didn't want to think about how sad I was so I just cooked and ate and cooked and ate. Thinking back, that's pretty much how I had always made myself feel better. My Mom cooked the best soups when we were sick, cookies for a rainy day...

My relationship is getting better, though we have had some rocky times (mmm rocky road ice cream!).

I was a dietitian for a good while and I think thats when I was at my healthiest, but after some children and some men it took a turn for the downside. We need to remember that we eat to feed ourselves, not to over stuff ourselves.

My separation from my husband came with about forty pounds too. I too turn to food for comfort-for relief from stress, for a cure for boredom and so on. I have much to work on to lose my excess.

Now you've got me thinking about ice cream and that's the last thing I should have late at night...no matter how good a mood I'm in.

So what helped change your relationship with food? What do you tell yourself?

I have better control with food now. Before I can just eat all the ice cream I want. When I gained weight, I went on a natural diet and exercised regularly and lost 20lbs 6 years ago. After 3 years of slacking I gained 25lbs and it's been terrible . Now I have been eating healthy and slowly cutting down my sweets, carbs, and junk foods which I am so fund of. I have lost 10lbs already and I'm on my way to losing another 15lbs . The holidays is fast approaching though and it will be a very difficult time for me but I will try my hardest.
