Default Short-term?

I've been reading up on Phentermine a lot since I started taking it, just to get the most information possible on it, but one thing that kind of got me thinking is that every article I read about it says that it should be taken "short-term". What is short-term for Phentermine, and why is it best as a short-term treatment?

The thing about phentermine is that it can become addictive for some people. For most it just stops being so effective on their bodies after 3-6 months. It's a pretty hardcore medication as it's remotely related to amphetamines. Doctors prefer to prescribe Phentermine monthly so that patients come back for a checkup each month, so make sure their body isn't experiencing side effects like raised blood pressure, etc..

From other sites I've read, Phentermine is addictive for some. For those who are addicted and begin to see less results, they may feel the need to take even more, and that could result in an overdose.

I don't want to sound like a parrot, but like people have said it can be addictive. My doctor says that I should only take is for a couple of months and to schedule checkups each month that I'm taking it

Thanks for answering my question everybody. I thought it might be because of how addictive it is, but wasn't for sure if that was exactly why. How long, on average, do people have the prescription for?

If it's related to amphetamines, what are the similarities? I mean will you experience some of the effects that people do when they abuse amphetamines, and is that a side effect that you should watch out for? So does it affect your day to day living, like your ability to drive a car?
